DAY 1
Our day begins with a drive from Quito to the historic Hacienda la Compañía, a working farm located in the Cayambe Valley along the road to Otavalo. This 18th-century colonial hacienda also boasts its rose plantation, as Ecuadorian roses are renowned worldwide for their exceptional quality.
Upon arriving in Otavalo, a market town nestled in the northern Andes, we’ll explore the vibrant “rainbow market,” where artisans proudly display a dazzling array of handcrafted products in vivid colors. From Andean textiles to hats, scarves, tapestries, rugs, jewelry, and ceramics, the market is a visual feast of tradition and craftsmanship.
For lunch, we travel to Piman Hacienda, nestled in a remote valley in the northern Andes. This 17th-century estate was one of the first established by the Spanish settlers, blending colonial and post-colonial architectural styles. The 5-hectare property features lush gardens, a chapel, and a 19th-century library.
